Avid Rovio developers take heed -- new API (v.1.3) available!

Hi all,

Just a little heads up to tell you that we've uploaded a new API for Rovio (v.1.3), which includes the following updates:

New functions documented:

  • GetUPnP.cgi
  • SetUPnP.cgi
  • SendHttp.cgi

Updated functions:

  • SetWlan.cgi/GetWlan.cgi
  • SetIP.cgi/GetIP.cgi

Take Heed?  Seriously?  From Oct 2008 for API v1.2 to Aug 2009 for v1.3 and these are the "updates?"

 Where are our new features?  Where are half of the recomendations the community has tried to propose?  Where's our open source firmware so we can use our creative juices to develop what Wowee doesn't have the wherewithall or funds to spend resources on? Use the force of the fanatic community to your advantage!

 There are numerous comments on these forums about the forums dieing.  They've been dead long ago.  My rovio hasn't even roamed my house in months.  I keep checking in, just hoping that there are some developments that reinvigorate my interest in having a programable, scriptable, on-demand robot that can perform semi-autonomous tasks, but unfortunately keep getting let down.

 Very disappointing.

 I think I'm going to go dig out my BigTrak, at least that took my inputs and did my bidding.

Hello,

As Rovio considered Omni-directional Robot, the function ManualDrive() which is explained in the file "Rovio_API_Specifications_v1.2 & v1.3" can only control Rovio in defined directions and rotations.

For example: if I want to rotate Rovio at 10 degree, how should I use the function ManualDrive() in this case?

Another example, if I want to move Rovio forward-right at 25 degree, how to do such a motion?

Is there formula or rule that can be used to calculate both the speed and angle that gives the correct direction of movement?

It will be highly appreciated if you could supply me with full reference of Rovio API functions to complete my research.
