pc connection

Hello guys, i hope someone can help.

I have just unboxed the blummin thing, and am trying to connect it to the PC,  when i open the RS MEDIA SUITE, and select "media organiser" it tells me there is no robot found....

I have switched to USB mode on the robot, and still nothing.

I can access the files on my crappy 8meg SD card and upload the new personality etc... but cannot find the robot in the media suite.

any suggestions

Thanks

Lee

Hi Lee,

Try this:

  1. Power on the robot
  2. Put him in USB Mode
  3. Launch the Media Suite application on your PC
  4. Now, plug the USB cable into your computer.
  5. If you go into the Media Organizer, you should see a listing of files under My Robot.

Typically, if you're running Windows XP, it should recognize that a USB device was just plugged in, and it should recognize it as some kind of storage.

Hope this helps!

If that does not work (as it doesn't for some people), try connecting it through a powered USB hub.

Hi guys, thanks for the repies, currently at work, so will not be able to try until later.

could someone though please explain what a powered USB hub is?

Thanks!

USB ports can supply power to a device, a non powered USB hub, draws
power from the PC. A powered USB hub has a seperate power pack and
supplys power itself.

Several people have had problems connecting over USB, and the solution is usually a powered USB hub.

Ahh ok got ya! i will take a look tonight and see what i can find.

one more thing, off topic, but can someone help...

When i turn the robot on, he is really LOUD, to a point of shouting, when i go to the media section and turn down the volume, its ok until i power him up again, and he loses the setting..

Any idea?

Thats odd, he should store the volume setting. At least I THINK mine does.

Depends on if you use the controller shortcut (R up/down Page 48) or use media mode OPTIONS 1 VOLUME to lower volume, he will not store the lowered volume if it is done via the shortcut. See manual page 62. Thanks for the tip on the powered USB Hub I'll give it a try as sometimes he will connect OK and others he wont :-)

It sounds to me like leeiom was using the media mode menu to lower the volume, not the shortcut.

Hmm.. There seems to be two issues to address, SD card not found in Media
Organizer, and the Video file import

SD card not found
=================
1. Download and install the latest version of RS Media Editing Suite
(http://www.wowweesupport.com/download...

2. Make sure the write lock is off on the SD Card, make sure it is writeable

3. When inserting the SD card, make sure RS Media is powered OFF, and then
insert the SD card, same is required when you eject the SD card.

4. If still does not work, Might need to format the SD Card, for this,

- Connect RS Media with a USB cable to your PC (Make sure the SD card is
inserted into RS Media)

- Enable USB Mode

- Go to "My Computer" and locate the RS Media device drive >> Right-click
the drive >> Format...

- Select "Fat32" as the File system and click "Start"

- Power OFF and then Power ON your RS Media.

Now try to see if you can access it in Media Organizer, If it still does not
work, please get him to send a screenshot of the file structure in the SD
card

----------------------

Video file import
=================
1. Download a video converter

2. Set properties as according:

- Video size: 160x120 / 320x240 (this allows the movie to be scaled down to
the LCD screen

- Frame rate: adjust this to near 15 fps

3. Convert the file to an DivX Movie (*.AVI)

Hope that helps,

As I said above, try a powered USB hub.

bediha01, how exactly
does advice on accessing the SD card under the media browser and
converting video for use with the RS Media, relate to an inability to
connect to the RS Media over USB?

Okay, I've been trying to connect my RS Media, it doesn't say no robot found when I use the instructions in the second post. Also I don't believe I need a powered USB Hub since I can charge an Ipod off of it. Any suggestions?

(I've even made sure that my telnet service is up and running and also that all firewalls are off)
