Hello

We are approaching to a great milestone, when building a full custom cartridge is possible. But as You known - technical details are boring and uninteresting :))

So we need something flashy and eye-catching.

And You, Yes - exactly You can do it :))

We need just a scenario of interaction and corresponding audio files :))

Sounds like fun. How about Teddy from A.I.?

:)

We can put in cartridge anything :))

Just write it down (step by step actions, possible interactions and reactions) and record corresponding audio :))

Check clips about robopanda on wowwee site and youtube to get understanding of robopandas basic capabilities. And build your script (script in movies sense, not in programming sense :)) ) based on this.

Sevik,

I'm really busy at the moment so no promises (understatement).

But if I find time to play a bit, where's a list of Robopanda's triggers and actions? Triggers example - Left hand touch, etc. Actions example - crawl forward, turn head.

Also, once you do this, how could I get or burn a copy for my Robopanda?

July 25, 2008 11:46 AM updated: July 25, 2008 5:46 PM

triggers - internal side of hands, top side of foots, top of head, back (between mode switch and cartridge slot) and belly (under blue led)

actions:
leds on belly, in eyes (separate channels for left and right eye), on hands
moving of ears (2 positions)
moving of eyebrows (2 positions, one channel for both)
moving of foots up and down (proportional)
moving of hands up-down and left-right in shoulder joints (proportional)
moving of head left-right and up-down (proportional)

all moving can be combined in one action. (BE AWARE TECH DETAILS THERE :)) Really there is moving scripts which describe sequence of key positions of each proportional channel and speeds of each motor during moving between key positions)

But we can start with much more high-level descriptions and workout details later.

for burning custom cartridge - I can provide you with cartridge image (binary file), but you have to write it to SPI rom and put in original or hand-made cartridge.

And of course sources and tools to build your own custom cartridge image is and will be available to anybody.

For details about making hardware for custom cartridge see http://www.robocommunity.com/forum/thread/12729/Robopanda-Hacks-and-mods/ pages 5 and 6.

GIFT HERE!!! I promise I will build and send 1 custom cartridge for 1 best contributor to this thread when it will be ready :))

I've been thinking of Darth Panda myself, along with red LED eyes... but putting together audio files and script will take some doing!

I love the Darth Panda idea. Would Panda Cop (Robo Cop) be over the top?

I started with 2 robots but before I knew it, well, it's a disease I tell you.

Lets start with some very simple things - like test mode - when we have one audio for startup/hello/introduction and one audio for each of sensors.

Milw: you already have a cartridge hw :)) So you are not qualified for gift part :))

*Snaps* Damn, I guess that means I don't qualify for the gift part either.

Hmm.... am I the only one thinking of those old choose your own adventure books?

Due to high ompression rate of codec - source audiofiles must be original 16 bit uncompressed wavs with 32000-44100-48000 sample rate or high bitrate mp3s (320+ kbps).

In other cases terrible artifacts in low frequences come up due to double quantization of mp3 and robopanda codecs.

Yes, "Choose you own adventure" is the best genre for such a thing

Heh, Elvis ALive cartridge is almost done too :))

So you can speak your ideas for it too :)) But it's not interactive for now :)) But work continues :))

Sevik,

This is awesome work. I think Teddy from A.I is best. But due to lack of a good library of audio clips, I will probably have to help create a macro for filters. I am getting a mic for Elvis recording, so maybe I will be able to come up with something to help.

My voice is raspy, but not as deep as Jack Angel who did the voice for teddy. It will need some modifcations.

@Sevik,

I don't have a script but I've got some of Teddy's voice files from the A.I. movie. I assume you will use these only for making a video to demo your hacked cartridge. If you do more than that you'll have to do your own research into whether or not they fall under "fair use" guidelines, I can't give any advice or recommendations there. It took a long time to condition the wave files because there's background noise and background music running throughout the movie. Some of them cleaned up a lot better than others but it still took extensive work with noise cancellation filters, EQ, and other tricks. The lines I grabbed were:

"Do you remember?" - part 1 of Teddy giving David the lock of Mommy's hair
"When you cut some of Mommy's hair?" - part 2 of that line
"And you dropped her hair?" - part 3 of that line
"Be careful David, this is not a toy" - helicopter ride
"Hello David"
"I am not a toy!"
"I don't know David"
"I don't think so"
"I see the moon"
"I told her"
"Mommy"
"We are in a cage"
"We run now"
"What happened?"
"You will break!"

That should be enough to stitch together a fun or creepy+fun scene. PM me your E-mail and I'll send you the details.

Heh, seems it is a good chunk of work :))

I hope I'll have files shortly. I will try to encode it using codec of robopanda, will see results.

Looking forward for scene script :))
