I was playing around with him until about a week ago when he told me what an exhausting day it had been and shut himself down!(Service Bot 3000). I've got more batteries but just been too preoccupied/lazy to put 'em in. I down loaded all the personalities for him but found only about 3 or 4 of them worked. I'll play around with those later. What I really want to do is make my own personality - RoboScot. I do a pretty good Scots accent even if I do say so myself. Great hairy dog danglers!!!

I started with 2 robots but before I knew it, well, it's a disease I tell you.

I use him as an mp3 player on my desk. He does get a lot of attention from people passing by.

Cool. I didn't realise you had one Sunbeam owner. What else have you done with him? I found the woofer seems to distort with some of my music (Only tried Weird Al Yankovic so far). How's yours handle it?
How's the Sunbeam by the way? How many people call you Maxwell Smart?

I use him to try new things but none of my Projects come to an end (only a Personality without the Demo and some Macros , so it's unfinished yet). I would try new things but I do not have enough time. I still consider my RS Media named Robo® a educational robot with a good research potential ... hope for a better Editing Suite as a Christmas Gift from Santa :) hehe

I'm praying for a new editing suite. Awful isn't it? I gave Bob(my RS Media) some new batteries last night!

I have 1 x RS Media, 3xRSV1  2xRSV2  1xRoboreptile,  1xTribot,  2 x Mini RSV1, RSV2,Roboreptile  & Roboraptor,1 x Robopet . He just hangs arround and looks good. The woofer is very sensative so you have to watch the recording levels especially the Bass. The Sunbeam is going well thanks. I can't wait for the warm wheather so I can take it out more.

Mate, sounds like you've got it made. Lots of bots and a weekend toy as well.Do you take it to work? If you feel like it, give us a bell at work mate. I'd love the distraction actually. I'm currently working on our complete listing of what parts of ours fit various cars. There's only about 300 different records!! I'm slowly going mad...oops! Too late!

Still working with Java, and shell programming with RS Media and
planning (or should I say fantasizing about) integration with my
NXT.

My current theory is to use sound as the control mechanism going
from RSMEDIA -> to NXT.
The sounds will be from a custom personality and will have
specific meaning based on the Java program that RS Media is running,
They will most likely be customized mp3s that will be distinguishable
by the NXT.

I'm programming both in Java and RS media with shell

Still a long way to go but I'm making good progress every week!!!

Sounds like you've got the bit well and truly between your teeth. Go for it!!

Its fun, just slow, because I have so many other projects in the worx.

But ultimately we're going to put out a 3d environment that will let you truly program the RS media in a virtual world first then upload the program to the robot. We're building the meshes in Blender now, we're about 1/3 done building
a skeleton for RSMedia (a lot of work)., but that will allow the programmer to
manipulate him completely in 3D space( virtual environment)

The whole thing will be a QT/Openg GL type program that will run on Linux/Mac.
Windoze already has the media suite so we're not spending any effort on a Windoze version. We would like to put out something that would help the Linux, Unix, or Mac people because we were left out in the cold.

It may take a while (another 9 months or so) but once done, we'll release it
the meshes, the openGL code, and the QT code as open source :-)

Also any successful (programmable interaction) between RS Media and NXT that we
bump into we will release as well.

The more I hear about the Mindstorms NXT the more I want one.

The motors, and sensor programming for NXT is very straightforward.
Insight into motor and sensor programmming for the NXT sometimes lead to similar
insights for the RS Media (at least it does for me).

Programming for the NXT is well documented. If it weren't for Nocturnal and a couple of others on this message board there wouldn't be any programming documentation for the RS Media. You can get ideas for control of RSMedia's motors and sensors from your experiences with NXT.

I paid a couple of hundred bucks for the NXT I got my money's worth and I'm about to buy another NXT to add to the mix.

I'm seriously thinking about getting one of those. Ya see, I told you it was a disease. It's progressing...

Yes it is a disease, I too have been doing a bit of Java with RS Media but nothing noteworthy, you go The Cylon! As for the NXT I have one and they can be really addicting, stop in your bookstore or amazon and see the myriad of books available, volumes and volumes for projects wit the NXT! If one could interface some of the NXT stuff with RS-Media that would be very cool indeed! I am buying Wowwees current robots but I must say, everything feels like a bit of a step down since RS Media. Though Rovio will be something great and new entirely. Even Mr Personality seems a bit like a scaled down RS Media on wheels. I could be wrong however but we'll see

I actually had a go at my RS Media last week for the first time in about 3-4 weeks! It was great! Although I had to wait 2 days as the brain batteries were low. As I had my RSV2 out as well, I also discovered HIS brain batteries were low too. I played playstation instead......

I started the Java lessons way back when, but got distracted when Sun still had not released the code for RSMedia. I had not really been back since that time, though I really need to.

I also have a NXT that I am working with as well. My free time has lately been monopolized by "Robotics Experiments for the Evil Genius" work book, and learning the ins and outs of micro-controllers and the BS2 chips.

Unfortunately, this means that RSMedia has not had any play time other than playing some tunes for me while out in the garage or back yard. I did charge up the little brain batteries tonight though, with hopes of setting him free again here one day soon.
