Please help me to diagnose problem:
Congratulations. You have stripped a gear. I say congratulations because although this was not uncommon with the V2, you are the first person to have done it with a RS Media.
Hello Nocturnal! I bought in this condition :( But I dreaming about repairing it and maybe make it better. So can I replace this gears from RS2? It is cheaper, and I want to mount hands from RSV2 to Media.
Probably, I have not dismantled the hand / neck mechanism on the RS Media, so I cannot say with certainty, but it is probable that the gear in question is identical in both.
Do I have to dismantle all boards and chest reductor to pieces, or i can get access from a front? Looks like motor (where human got heart ) spins in one direction. i've tryed to spin the motor back with battery, but it returns to middle and stops. Also eyes of the bot turns right only.
That does not sound good. You can gain access from the front, the rack and pinion gear is behind the slide. If you remove the right screws, the slide should detach from the chest.
Thank you Nocturnal , your advise is really helpful.I found blue plastic gear missed tooth. Similar looking motors found here:
but where to find this gear?
Unfortunately I am not aware of a source other than Wow Wee. You could try asking them, but I know of only two instances where Wow Wee shipped out a replacement gear.
Now that the slide is detached, test that the motor is turning in both directions properly.
If you're looking for gears, you might want to try here:
http://www.robotshop.us/ (they ship world-wide. Type "Gear" in their search box).
Also an assortment of gears here too. Don't know if the have what you want.
Or you could try making a mold and making a replacement using this stuff:
If none of those options work, you could ask these folks to make you a new gear:
I didn't mention WowWee, because while I talked to them on the phone way back before I got my RSM last year, they said if you have a broken part they can get a new one for you by calling their customer service. Well, they since redesigned their site and seems email support only. My experience with their email support was very bad. So I'd try all other options before contacting them as a last resort.
Hope this helps...
Thank you very much for help! I hope this thread helps others with simolar problems. One more question: when I dismantle chest slide and detach motor I found it spins only one direction. First I think the problem is position sensor on the top of slide, but i check this with multimeter - trouble is somwhere else. Bot moves its head from center to right Any suggestions?
