"BEAM" questions.

Lady Royce's picture

Since the entire "Robosapien" line started on Mr. Tilden's "BEAM" idea, I was wondering, if I were to strip the IR recivers out of old DVD or VHS or CD players that no longer work, will they work in any of the "Robosapien" line to upgrade them so they can "see" the remote from all angles rather then just from the front of the robot?

Also. Is it possible to take one of these bots and change it from IR to RC so that one could get a longer range out of the remote transmitter and the bot?

RoboRemote API and linux usb driver?

technik3k's picture

Hi,

I am new here. My son recently got FemiSapien and RoboRemote as a present.

Software that WowWee provides for RoboRemote is ok for basics, but has some issues. I am going to give a try Go-Robo choreographer for FemiSapien as it looks much better, but regardless of that I really want to be able to connect to RoboRemote on Ubuntu Linux computer.

So I have two questions:

1. Is there a device driver for WowWee USB RoboRemote for linux?

2. Is there a protocol, API, or at least a sample code for accessing RoboRemote that is freely available?

First steps in hacking?

Hi.  I've been a software tinkerer for a while, but have never got my hands dirty with hardware (well, I put a PC together from parts once, but that's not exactly difficult).

But now that I've discovered Wowwee stuff, it's got me interested in this whole robotics thing.  I've bought a book on the subject (Robot Builder's Bonanza),  but I'm not sure I'm ready to jump in to building my own robots from scratch yet (or ever!), so I thought trying to hack some Wowwee stuff might be a good start.

Help I'm a newbie

I've only just joined here and need a little help.

Are there any guids online for how to dissassemble the roboquad?

I'm just curious as to its inner workings and a guide would be cool and would also help get it back together in one piece.  So if there is anything like that available could you help a guy out by replying to this message.
