Roboquad's head down :(

We just got my son a roboquad for Christmas. It has been working just fine. He's only played with it two times - it's such a battery hog!

We got some rechargable batteries for it. And he put it away a few days ago to recharge the batteries. He just took him out and his head would not lift. Plus he was making a funny noise.

I did send an exchange request to Discovery.com. Has anyone ever had a problem like this?

It sounds like a gear in the head motor drive ststem is broken, without taking it apart. I would exchange it. Also the Quad should not need batteries to be replaced alot. If you are then it is pulling alot of current from one of the motors. Probily the head motor with a bad set of reduction gears. Although the rechargeables that you bough may not have the enough current. You need at least 1500uA or higher for this Quad. Use NI-MH not NI-CD. hope this helps. please keep us informed. GWJax

Is that the only symptom that something's wrong, or does the roboquad fail to respond to other movement requests when you use the remote?

If it's generally appearing weak or tired, than it could be that the rechargeable batteries either aren't fully charged, or that the inherent lower voltage of the rechargeable cells is catching up to your roboquad.

The non-disposeable alkaline batteries typically have a fresh voltage of 1.5Volts per cell. NiCad and NiMH batteries only have 1.2Volt per cell. That doesn't sound like much, until you figure that 4 fresh non-rechargeable cells provide 6 volts, while 4 rechargeable cells give 4.8Volts.

There's more to it than that, having to do with the amount of current they can provide, but it can affect motor performance.

It could possibly be that if you got a Ni-Cd rechargable battery he is not taking it too well. Roboquad needs a Ni-Mh to work properly since the Ni-Mh have a higher speed at which the chemical runs. With the Ni-Cd it doesn't get the power needed. If you got Ni-Cd batteries try getting some Ni-Mh. If it still is screwed up replace the nead geers.

HI,

I have got into the same problem as matchamom. my quad heads dropped. i dont think the head servo motor is broken, because the head can be moved up. but the response from the roboquad for any remote operation would be heads down.

also it performs few limited operations and repeat it now and then.

matchamom did u got it fixed

I sent the information of what it was doing to the company due to it being new. It was not the battery, but a defective unit. They sent us a replacement!
